What is up, people? Welcome. Thanks for checking out my #PimpMyBio page (formerly my ho-hum “About” page). I’ve updated it for #PitchWars, a contest for writers. The goal is to connect with a mentor who will help improve their manuscript, query letter, and synopsis, and then get everything ready to submit for the big time: publishing. This contest is happening now through the fall. Exciting!
Between high school and college in the early 90’s I spent a crazy fun year as an exchange student in Spain through Youth For Understanding. My book is about my adventures that year. I hope you will find them as funny and outrageous as I did.
A few years later, I spent my junior year of college in France. Originally, my plan was to return to Spain for my junior year (I was a Spanish major, after all), but I started studying French and my French professor suggested I go to Paris instead. I figured, pour quoi pas? So Paris, it’s environs, and my adventures there will be my next book’s subject matter.
In other writing, I’m working on a Middle Grade (MG) or Young Adult (YA) fantasy book (series?) about a unicorn who travels to earth and makes friends with a sister and brother. That will be a departure, of course, from books about my personal travel adventures, so it should be a challenging and exciting change. Lots of ideas swirling in my mind, like a galaxy.
Currently I live in the Washington DC area with my husband, two kids, and a dog. I love writing with fountain pens, reading paper books by turning actual pages, jumping in photos, scrapbooking, talking about Harry Potter, traveling, helping my kids with their Spanish and French homework, libraries (school and public), family, cursing like a sailor when my kids are out of earshot, sitting on my screened-in porch, and backyard bird-watching.
Thanks for reading about me. Stay tuned for updates on my adventures in Pitch Wars, writing, and beyond.
